PREVIEW: Loyola and Culver City will meet for the fourth time overall (4-0 all-time) and third in the last year. During the 2022 season, the Cubs defeated the Centaurs twice on the road (W 24-19 on 9/2/22 and W 17-14 in the CIF Quarterfinals on 11/11/22).
LAST TIME OUT: The Cubs, playing in Game 1 on the road at Damien, fought back from an early 14-0 deficit in the first quarter to tie the score at the half behind touchdowns from junior QB Thomas Knyal ’25 to LB Scott Taylor ’25 and WR Khalil Cueva ’24. However, the young squad could not muster second half offense, ultimately falling 35-14 in La Verne. Culver City is coming off a high-powered 72-63 road win over reigning CIF Div. VI Champion, San Jacinto.
UNDERCLASSMEN: This year, Loyola will field a sophomore-only team and a freshman-only team to round out the three-level football program.
HISTORY: Loyola’s legendary football program is among California’s all-time best, ranking sixth on the state’s wins list with 674 total victories. The Cubs have one National Championship (1975) to go along with six CIF Division I championships, while 11 Cubs have been recognized as CIF Players of the Year––including current head coach Drew Casani ’91. As of the most recent NFL season, Loyola currently ranks No. 1 amongst all high schools in Southern California with four active alumni on NFL 53-man rosters.
