The Loyola High School of Los Angeles Athletic Department is proud to announce that all 12 sports were recognized on this year’s CIF Southern Section FORD Academic Awards List. The winners of the 36th annual awards program were based on a cumulative unweighted grade point average for a program in each sport.
Loyola’s lacrosse program won the team award, finishing first overall with the highest unweighted team GPA (3.766) of any CIF school in the sport of lacrosse. Swimming finished second overall (3.818 unweighted) among Swim & Dive programs, while Football finished third overall in its sport (3.454 unweighted).
In total, four Loyola programs finished in the Top 5 of their sport, with Track & Field placing 5th overall and earning honorable mention status with a 3.632 unweighted team GPA. Water Polo was a Top 10 finisher (3.653), placing 9th among all CIF-SS water polo programs.
Nine of Loyola’s 12 sports finished in the Top 15 – with Baseball (14th - 3.596), Basketball (14th - 3.504), Golf (15th - 3.629), and Soccer (15th - 3.472) all earning honorable mention. Loyola Cross Country (3.520), Tennis (3.596), and Volleyball (3.452) also earned honorable mention.
Additionally, each school in the CIF Southern Section had one individual “Student-Athlete of the Year”, with Loyola Volleyball’s senior All-American outside hitter and top-ranked recruit Sean Kelly ’24 earning the distinction.
