In their eighth game of the season, The Cubs faced off against the Chaminade Eagles in Woodland Hills.
The Eagles started off with the ball, and quickly proceeded to the 32 yard line off of a quick screen pass to a receiver. The receiver then ran for 20 yards until he was tackled. The Eagles ended up settling for a 30 yard field goal, opening the score up for the game. On the following drive, quarterback Nathan Priestly threw to Hunter Ballard for a gain of 3 yards. The Cubs were not able to gain a new set of downs, and the Eagles quickly took back possession of the football. On the 27 yard line, the Eagles’ quarterback handed it off to the running back who then rushed in for a touchdown, increasing their score to 10 points. on Loyola’s second play of the following drive, Priestly threw the ball to Speed Fry. However the pass was intercepted and Chaminade gained possession yet again. The Cubs would soon gain the football back, however, because of a fumbled ball on Chaminade’s second play of the following drive.
The Eagles began the second quarter. Through a series of passes and runs they were able to advance the ball to the 10 yard line, upon which they scored a field goal, increasing their score by 13 points. The Cubs not quick to lose hope, gave the ball to Priestly. He threw the ball 10 yards Ceyair Wright. Wright ran down the left side of the field, passing two defenders and scoring for the Cubs, which decreased the point deficit by 7 points. On the following drive, Loyola’s defense held the Eagles offense to 3 downs each drive. however, Chaminade was able to convert and move the ball down the field, scoring a touchdown in the process. The score at the end of the first half was 20-7 in favor of Chaminade.
Beginning of the third-quarter was Loyola. On the second play of the drive, quarterback Nathan Priestly threw a 10 yard pass to Brendan Pernecky, who then around five more yards until being pushed out of bounds. continuing the drive was beautiful bride who caught a pass on the 40 yard line and blazed past three defenders, gaining 10 more yards on the play. Ultimately, the Cubs could not convert a touchdown. However, kicker Nick Barmira was able to score a field goal from 30 yards out, which increased Loyola’s score to 10 points. The results of a 55 yard running play, Chaminade was able to advance the football to the 5 yard line. However, Loyola’s defensive line, especially junior Shane Stroyke held the Eagles for a turnover on downs, and Chaminade was not able to score.
Loyola began the last quarter of the game. They were able to gain possession from an on-sides kick off. Priestly handed the ball off to Speed Fry on third down. Fry trudged through the sea of defenders, but he was just short of the first down marker. Throughout the duration of the fourth quarter, neither team could score, and drives did not see anywhere near the the end zone. The final score of the game was 27-10 in favor of Chaminade.
