The No. 5-seeded Loyola Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Redondo Beach on Saturday evening and pulled the upset over the host and No. 4 seed Redondo Union, securing a spot in the CIF Semifinals to be played later this week at Leavey Gym.
The Cubs (21-4) will face a tall task in their next opponent as they host the nation’s top-ranked and No. 1 overall seed Newport Harbor (34-1) on Wednesday (May 8) at 6 p.m. However, with one CIF upset already under their belt, Loyola will look to pull off a second on their home floor.
A win on Wednesday would send the Cubs to the CIF Championship match against the winner of the other semifinal between No. 2 seed Mira Costa (22-5) and No. 3 seed Santa Barbara (21-6). The Cubs have made the CIF Semifinals for the second consecutive year and will look to win their first CIF title since 2016.
