Loyola’s Swimming & Diving programs begin the hunt for a CIF Championship this week when both the Varsity and JV teams host Chaminade in the first meet of the season at Conn Pool tomorrow (Feb. 21) at 3:15 p.m.
Last season, the AquaCubs went undefeated in the regular season, claimed a 12th-straight Mission League title and secured a runner-up finish at the CIF-SS Division I Championships under the leadership of head coach Kevin Mann, who now enters his 19th season at Loyola. In addition to Mann, James Banks (JV head coach) and Tabitha Krebs (Diving coach) round out the 2019 staff.
Returning for the Cubs will be All-Americans Mark McCrary ’19 and Connor Lee ’19. Both seniors took home individual CIF titles last season, with Lee claiming the 100 Fly (0:47.33) and McCrary the 100 Back (0:48.93). Their 2018 performances also helped Loyola extend its streak to 12-straight top-three CIF Championship finishes.
Following Thursday's action, the Varsity team will travel to Studio City and the campus of Harvard-Westlake to participate in the Justin Carr “Friday Night Lights” Classic at 5 p.m. (Feb. 22). Both levels will then go to Mission Hills and race with Alemany at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 28).
