Quarter 1
The Cubs win the opening sprint and find the back of the net on their first shot of the night with a skip from Vavic. The team uses a press to steal the ball quickly on the Knights first offensive possession, leading to another goal for the Cubs on their chance. The Knights again turn the ball over, forcing them to foul on the defensive side of the ball. The foul leads to the Cubs third score of the match, this time from Agliozzo. After a few big blocks from Vavic, the Cubs take the ball back but give possession away quickly. The Knights use the opportunity to force an exclusion but still fail to capitalize. The Cubs produce a rather lackluster shot on goal which the keeper picks up easily. Mueller stops the quick shot from the Knights and outlets the ball for an eventual shot off the bar from the away side. The Knights commit an offensive foul but the Cubs waste the golden opportunity they receive as a result. Luckily, their defense comes up with a stop to save an opportunity on goal. The Cubs have a solid shot saved before skipping one past the keeper for the fourth goal of the afternoon. Agliozzo found the net for the second time. The quarter ends with the Cubs taking an average opportunity on goal, but the Knight keeper saves it.

Quarter 2
For the second time of the game, the Cubs come out on top from the sprint. The Cubs work the ball around nicely and finish another shot from Agliozzo. The Knights find an open man but send the shot straight to the chest of Mueller who easily saves the shot. The Cubs take a shot late in the shot clock forcing a solid save from the Knight goalie. On the other end, the Cubs take an exclusion, but the Knights take an ill-advised shot that gets blocked. The Cubs use the chance to extend their lead with a goal off the rebound from Kranz. The Cubs again take an exclusion but the Knights offense can’t seem to break the Cubs down as they fail to even get a shot off. An athletic steal from Vavic helps the Cubs work the ball around for an easy Kranz finish. Right after the goal, the Cubs again steal the ball but fail to finish an easy opportunity to score. The Knights coach want a timeout and gets one, but his advice doesn’t show much fruit as the team fails to register a shot before the shot clock ends. The Cubs turn the ball over quickly on their offensive chance but steal the ball to make up for the mistake. The steal turns into an easy conversion from Kranz off the Engstrom assist. The Cubs experience a grievous miscommunication which gives the Knights their first goal of the game. Engstrom works himself into a scoring position before placing the ball cross cage for a goal as a response to conceding on the other end. The Knights take a poor shot after faltering for the ninth time of the match but the Cubs take a weak shot of their own as the half expires.

Quarter 3
The Cubs lose the sprint and immediately transition to their press, winning them a steal and a quick goal from Ortiz. The Cubs press again and use the resulting steal to force an exclusion. With the man advantage, Engstrom finishes the opportunity to the bottom corner. On the next play, though, the Knights find the middle and finish with a lob for their second goal. The Cubs don’t look fazed from the goal as Mackel finishes the twelfth goal of the match. They win the ball back again but fail score and suffer an exclusion on the next play. The Knights only produce a meager shot off the advantage and the Cubs come away clean. The Cubs throw the ball away but steal back possession straight away to take a shot that clangs off the bar. On the other end, the Knights force an exclusion that gets them an opportunity that they clang off the bar. The Cubs get out quickly and Rogers has a nice finish that ends up in the Knight net. The Knights come down and force another exclusion, prompting the home team’s head coach to call timeout. Out of the timeout, the Cubs come up with a stop that leads to a poor pass which ends up in the hands of the Knight keeper. Eventually, the Knights earn a solid opportunity to earn their third goal of the game. The Cubs respond quickly through a Regan finish to end the third frame.

Quarter 4
The Cubs win the fourth and final sprint to win a solid shot on goal but fail to score the chance. The Knights respond with a weak shot, too. The Cubs snap out of it and win a few rebounds for a Thomas score. A smart defensive play from the Cubs allows a Mackel post up to find its way past the Notre Dame keeper. The Knights earn themselves a solid opportunity to score but Griffin comes up with a steal to prevent the Knight conversion. On the way back down, the Cubs force an exclusion which prompts Coach Healy to call timeout. Out of the short intermission, the Cubs manage to score with an Ortiz finish. The Cubs again steal the ball and use the chance to try to force a shot near post. The shot gets blocked and the Knights get out quickly for a good chance that Culhane stuffs. The Cubs move the ball on the way back but have their shot blocked. The Knights do the same thing they’ve done all game, turn the ball over. After a shot that hits the bar, Culhane makes another solid stop. The save leads to an athletic finish from Mackel. The Cubs take an exclusion but steal the ball immediately. They come back down and find the back of the net with a Thomas lob. Straight after the score, Culhane makes two good stops to keep the Knights off the scoresheet. The clock runs out on the last play and the Cubs seal the second place spot in Mission League.
