A handful of Loyola Track & Field athletes competed at Mira Costa HS earlier today (Mar. 16) for the 25th Annual Mustang Relays, and the Cubs came away with three team wins and five more top-three finishes. Additionally, Loyola’s pole vaulters took the team trophy at the Maurice Greene Invitational hosted by Oaks Christian HS in Westlake Village, with senior Will O’Brien ’19 clearing 14-6 to win the individual crown.
In Manhattan Beach, Loyola’s Varsity sprinters won the Distance Medley relay (10:30.28) and the 4x800 (8:03.70), while the Frosh/Soph 4x800 team also finished first with a time of 8:36.23. The Frosh/Soph Cubs then took second place in both the 4x200 (1:36.64) and the DM relay (11:16.83), and third place in the 4x100 (46.16).
Individually, senior Jeremy Davis ’19 took second place in the Varsity 400m with a time of 50.49, while teammate Christian Sides ’19 took fourth in the Varsity 100m at 11.28. Sophomore Nicolas Flores ’21 completed the 300m hurdles in third for Frosh/Soph, while junior Gibson Plumb ’20 ran 41.65 to place fifth in the same event at the Varsity level.
Up next for Loyola T&F is a Mission League dual meet at Crespi HS in Encino this Tuesday (Mar. 19) at 3:15 p.m. All three levels remain undefeated in dual meet action.
