After making its first appearance in the State Top 20 Rankings last week, Loyola Varsity Basketball (20-5) climbed four spots to now rank 12th in California in this week's CalHiSports.com list released on Monday (Jan. 28).

Clinching the regular season title in the very tough Mission League helps move up the Cubs four positions in this week’s rankings. They still have the league playoff tournament to play, which starts with a matchup Thursday vs. Chaminade of West Hills, but barring an upset in that event look like they will be earning a berth in the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs. Loyola won its games last week 69-60 over Chaminade and 56-52 against Crespi of Encino. Against the Celts it was Anthony Lucenti hitting for 16 points to lead the scoring. Three others were in double figures — Mason Butler with 12 points (on four 3-pointers), Neil Owens with 11 and James Keefe with 10. Keefe also hauled in 14 rebounds.
