It was another successful weekend of racing for Loyola's Cross Country program, as the Cubs took home first place team finishes across all levels at the Bellarmine Jefferson-Sacred Heart Invitational in Griffith Park on Saturday (Sept. 28).
For the Varsity squad, Loyola finished with a final team score of 51 points, edging out second-place finisher Quartz Hill HS (52 points) and third-place Highland HS (94 points).
Individually, senior Anthony Stone ’20 finished third overall with a time of 15:19.2, while junior Arjun Vadgama ’21 took 7th overall (15:32.3). Other top racers for Loyola included Richard Moreno ’22 in 11th (15:40.8), Zach Zambrano ’21 in 13th (15:41.3), Gus Marshall ’20 in 25th (16:11.5) and Tyler Ratkovich ’20 in 26th (16:13.2). In the Varsity-RED (unseeded) race, Loyola also finished in first as a team with 64 points, better than second-place Venice HS with 82 points. Senior Estro Lopez-Gonzalez ’20 was the Cubs’ top finisher in 8th (16:31.3), while Conor O’Callahan ’20 (12th), William Labrador ’20 (15th), Campbell Godfrey ’21 (16th) and Samuel Liu ’20 (18th) all finished in the Top 20. Frosh/Soph:
Team: Loyola (1st Place) - 15 points
Individual: Loyola had 4 runners finish in the Top 5 and nine in the Top 11, led by first-place finisher Nick Castain ’22 and fellow sophomores Jake Walter ’22 (3rd), Dylan Kuhn ’22 (4th) and Dylan Bissell ’22 (5th). Julian Guinane ’22, Nathan Mars ’22, Andrew Parks ’22 and Spencer DeClercq ’22 and freshman Harrison Lavery ’23 also finished in the Top 11.
Junior Varsity:
Team: Loyola (1st Place) - 17 points
Individual: Loyola had 4 runners finish in the Top 5 and six in the Top 8, paced by a trio of sophomores in Keifer Lamberth ’22 (1st), Vincent Cho ’22 (2nd) and Colin Jacobs ’22 (3rd). Donoven McAlister ’21, Daniel Alvarez ’20, Mark Valenzuela ’22 and Matthew Lucero ’21 rounded out Loyola’s runners in the Top 11.
