The powerhouse Loyola Volleyball program will begin its 2019 season on the road this week, as all three levels travel to Palos Verdes to take on the Sea Kings on Wednesday (Feb. 20). The Varsity team is set for a 3:15 p.m. start time, followed by JV at 4:15 p.m. and Frosh/Soph at 5:15 p.m.
The Cubs will then remain on the road for three games at El Segundo HS on Thursday (Feb. 21) before hosting Burroughs HS at Leavey Gym on Tuesday (Feb. 26).
Under the leadership of Michael Boehle ’84, who enters his 21st year of coaching, the Varsity team will look to follow up last year’s CIF Semifinal appearance and a CIF-SS State Regional Championship and MaxPreps/VolleyballMag.com National Championship in 2017. On the schedule this season will be a home game against Corona Del Mar (Mar. 6) and appearances at the Best of the West Tournament in San Diego (Mar. 8-9) and the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions (Apr. 12-13). Mission League play begins against school rival Harvard-Westlake (Mar. 19).
Rounding out the Loyola Volleyball coaching staff will be assistants Brian Rofer and Parker Boehle ’12 at the Varsity level. Larry Rojas returns as head coach of the JV team and will be assisted by Nick Porterfield ’12, while Kaitlin Collins-Pardo takes over as head coach of the Frosh/Soph team.
