The Cubs crushed the Junipero Serra Cavaliers with a final score of 24-7. For the entire game, Cicero’s siren blared and the victory bell rang out. The Cubs started strong with a 56-yard run by QB Brayden Zermeno ‘21 in the first quarter bringing the score to 7-0. CB Evan Gregory Thomas ‘20 intercepted a pass from the Cavaliers to put the Cubs on their own 5-yard line; however, the drive was stopped short. In the second quarter, FB Ryan Quintanar caught a touchdown pass bringing the score to 14-0. Then RB Harrison Allen ’22 ran in a 5-yard touchdown to bring the score to 21-0. This essentially ended the first half with the score at 21-0.
In the third quarter, the Cavaliers scored a touchdown to bring the score to 21-7. Going into the fourth quarter, MLB Steven Arellano ‘20 made an important tackle putting Serra on the Cub’s 9-yard line. The tackle allowed the Cubs to prevent the Cavaliers from scoring and forced a turnover on downs the next play. Then QB Brayden Zermeno ‘21 made his second 56-yard run for the night. The Cubs got into field goal range, and being unable to score a touchdown, P Diego Burgos ‘20 kicked a 32-yard field goal to bring the score to 24-7. On defense came a couple of sacks by DT Mariano Uy ‘20, OLB Jeffrey Johnson ‘21, and MLB Steven Arellano ‘20 to limit the Cavaliers. At the end of the Cavaliers’ final drive, CB Tahj Owens ‘22 made an interception to effectively end the game. The Cubs ended the game by running out the clock. The Cubs have tied their record and stand at 3-3, and if the Cubs keep the same energy they had tonight, they can compete against any team put in their path.
