The Cubs came out ready to compete this season with a 38-0 win against the St. Bernard’s Vikings. The win provides needed momentum to the team as they head optimistically into this 2019 football season. The Cubs started strong by scoring 14 points in the first quarter and following up with an additional 7 points in the second. The score totaled 21-0 at the half. Sophomore Tahj Owens had a standout first half, scoring two impressive touchdowns to solidify Loyola's lead entering the half. The Cubs’ success came not only offensively, but also defensively with Mariano Uy making many impressive sacks on the line.
As the game progressed, the Cubs’ lead increased. By the middle of the third, the score sat at 21-0. With 3 minutes left in the third, the Cubs had once again increased the lead to 24-0. In the third quarter, Jacoby Kelly scored on a 75-yard pass thrown by Zermeno bringing the score 31-0, and Harrison Allen ran in a touchdown in the 4th quarter to bring the score to 38-0. The Cubs confidently finished off the game and held on to their significant lead ending with the encouraging final score of 38-0. With the team’s future unfolding, this game is a hopeful start for the season to come.
