Four members of Loyola’s Varsity Track & Field team—Mason Ratkovich '19, Will O'Brien '19, Anthony Stone '20 and Ceyair Wright '21—were recognized by MileSplitCA, earning 2019 Boys T&F All-State team nods after a successful showing throughout the postseason.
Senior distance specialist Mason Ratkovich ’19 led the way with a spot on the MileSplitCA All-State Second Team and MileSplitCA All-Senior First Team. Ratkovich pulled double duty at the CIF State meet, placing third in the 800m (1:52.22 - No. 3 time in CA) and running the second leg on Loyola’s winning 4x400m relay (3:17.56).
Additionally, senior pole vaulter Will O’Brien ’19 earned MileSplitCA All-State Honorable Mention and All-Senior Honorable Mention after finishing fifth overall in his event at the State meet. Junior distance runner Anthony Stone ’20 also garnered Honorable Mention honors for the All-Junior Team, while sophomore sprinter Ceyair Wright ’21 made the MileSplitCA All-Sophomore Team.
Wright currently ranks No. 3 in California in his class for the 200m (21.74/1.0) and No. 5 in the 100m (10.84/0.7), both of which were best times posted at the CIF-SS Division I Prelims. The rising junior also ran a 22.14 in the 200m at the CIF-SS Division I Finals, finishing sixth overall.
Loyola took a fourth place finish at CIF State Finals in May, with all four student-athletes contributing significantly to the Cubs’ team total of 20 points overall.
