Senior Daniel Nunez ’19 led a strong contingent of Loyola golfers at the Mission League Individual Championship today (May 2) at Brookside GC in Pasadena, recording a top two finish in the competition to secure a spot in next week’s CIF Individual Championship.
Nunez, a Trinity University commit, fired a sizzling 4-under 68 round to place second among all individual golfers on the day, while fellow senior Justin Wallender ’19 finished 10th overall in the competition. For their efforts, both players earned All-League recognition.
Joining the two upperclassmen on the league's honor roll were sophomores Timmy Von Der Ahe ’21 and Justin Lee ’21 and junior Brian Arnold ’20. In addition to Nunez, the trio of Von Der Ahe, Lee and Arnold punched their individual tickets into the CIF postseason, with Wallender serving as an alternate at the event.
Only eight golfers from the Mission League can qualify for the CIF Individual Championship. The Cubs nabbed four of those spots and will prepare for competition this Monday (May 6).
