After a four-set victory over the No. 12-seeded Laguna Beach Breakers in their first playoff match on Tuesday, the No. 5-seeded Cubs (20-4) will have revenge on their minds when they travel to Redondo Beach on Saturday (May 4) for another shot at host and No. 4 seed Redondo Union (27-5) in a CIF Quarterfinal game. First serve in this Loyola-Redondo rematch is set for 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to next week’s CIF Semifinals (May 8).
The Cubs last played against the Seahawks back on February 28 in what was just their fourth match of the season, losing in three tight sets (23-25, 21-25, 24-26) on the road. After that, however, Loyola rattled off six straight victories and are now in a position to reach the CIF Semifinals for the second consecutive season.
Should Loyola exact revenge on the Seahawks, the Final Four match will take place on Wednesday (May 8) at 6 p.m. against the winner of the quarterfinal between Newport Harbor (33-1) and San Clemente (29-5). Head coach Michael Boehle '84 has led the reigning Mission League Champion Cubs to a 20-4 record this season.
