Tonight, November 30th, at Woodrow Wilson High School, the Varsity Soccer Team won their second game of the season against Woodrow Wilson in a a 2-0 match.
Loyola started the first half of the game with a coordinated and aggressive offense. At 6:30, Grayson Doody scored a goal over the head of the overextended goalie. At 25:00, Henry Smith-Hastie scored Loyola's second goal to the far side of the goal.
Junior Liam Hook said, "We were told to come out strong, knowing that they were gonna want to beat us and just to match their players, and get some early goals to suppress any hope that they had."
The second half of the game saw a renewed effort by Woodrow Wilson to score some goals. Both sides played aggressively with a lot of close calls by both sides. Neither side scored in the second half and Loyola won 2-0.
Coach Trevor Mutch said, "I thought we played well. We knocked the ball, got good goals, and Long Beach Wilson came to play. They worked hard to try to stay in the game and I thought they disrupted us a little bit in the second half. We didn't knock it as well but it was a good game."
Loyola's next game will be against Downey on December 4th 5:00 at Loyola. Downey is one of the teams the varsity team played against last year at CIF.
Senior Nicolas Mancilla said, "We know it's going to be a tough game. We're not going to have any easy games but that's something that we really like because it gives us a lot of preparation for the latter part of the season."
