The newly-crowned regular season Mission League Champion Varsity Basketball team continues to move up the ranks in a new batch of polls released today (Monday, Jan. 28).
In the latest CIF-SS Boys Basketball Poll, the Cubs (20-5 overall, 5-1 league) improve two spots to No. 11 in Division I. Loyola also made the cut on the CIF Open Division Playoff watchlist, which was whittled down to 14 teams as the regular season comes to an end. In the newest Los Angeles Times poll, the Cubs leapfrogged three spots to No. 12.
No. 1-seeded Loyola will battle No. 4 Chaminade in the inaugural Mission League Tournament beginning on Thursday (Jan. 31) at 6 p.m. at Alemany HS in Mission Hills. The Cubs last played the Eagles in a Jan. 16 matchup, coming away with a 69-60 victory at Leavey Gym.
A win on Thursday would send Loyola to the championship game on Friday (Feb. 1) against either No. 2 seed Harvard-Westlake or No. 3 seed Notre Dame.
