Though the Easter break was short-lived for Loyola’s Varsity Golf team, the Cubs’ first day back on the greens was a positive one after a team score of 368 was enough to win the 46th Annual Aptos Invitational Championship at Seascape GC in Monterey earlier today (Apr. 22).
Junior Brian Arnold ’20 was the catalyst for Loyola, shooting a blazing 67 (-4) to lead the Cubs to first place as the lone man under par. Sophomore Justin Lee ’21 followed Arnold with his even round of 71, while Timmy Von Der Ahe ’21 shot just 2-over (73). Junior Joshua Yoo ’20 registered a 77 on the day, as did senior Justin Wallender ’19, who was playing individually.
Loyola will stay up north and resume match play tomorrow (Apr. 23) against Stevenson HS of Pebble Beach. The match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at Spyglass Hill GC.
