Loyola’s Junior Varsity Football team made strides in 2019, making the jump from a traditionally all-sophomore team to the JV level. The Cubs would finish the 2019 season with a 4-5 overall record, though a number of players split time between the JV and Varsity squads, picking up valuable knowledge and experience for the Cub Football program along the way.
The Cubs started the season off with a three-game winning streak, picking up victories over Culver City (27-8) in their home opener on August 29th at Smith Field; on the road at St. Augustine HS (14-3) on September 5th; and against Cathedral (13-8) at home on September 12th. Their final victory of the season was against Mission League foe Serra on the road in Gardena by a score of 20-6 back on October 3rd.
The JV Cubs were led by head coach Patrick Linton and assistants Eddie Ficklin, Anthony Holly ’87, Joe Murray ’78 and Fred Sainz ’83.
